How it plays

Spell your way to the next landmark

One finger, a wheel of letters and the open road. That is all you need.

  1. A level at Bryce Canyon at night: a line drawn across the letter wheel spells JOURNEY, under a board of words such as JOY, RUN and ENJOY.

Draw a line through the letters

Slide your finger across the wheel to spell a word, then let go. Real words that are not on the board go into your Extra words jar for bonus coins.

  2. The route map on the Blue Ridge: numbered stops along a road past the Linn Cove Viaduct, with a Play level 477 button.

Roll on to the next stop

Every level you finish moves you one stop along the road, from Chicago all the way to Bryce Canyon.

  3. The New postcard! screen for Niagara Falls: the painted postcard of the Horseshoe Falls, its caption and a Next level button.

    Collect a postcard

Finish a chapter and its painted landmark postcard goes into your album, with a real fact about the place.

Why you will love it

A calm road trip in your pocket

  • 5 great routes

Route 66, the Pacific Coast, the Blue Ridge, the Great Lakes and the Desert Southwest, with 8 chapters on each.

  • 1,000 levels

A gentle difficulty curve with breathers along the way, so the road never turns into a wall.

  • 40 landmark postcards

Every chapter has its own painted scene. Finish it to add its postcard to your album, and share your favourites with friends.

  • No timers. No lives.

Play one level on a coffee break or a whole chapter in an evening. Leave whenever you like: your words are still there when you come back.

  • Never stuck for long

Shuffle the wheel or reveal a letter. Stay stuck for a while and a free letter shows up, so every level can be finished without spending a coin.

  • A puzzle every day

A new daily puzzle, a calendar to fill and a gentle streak that forgives a missed day.

Support

Questions, answered

The short answers. The full set lives on our support page.

Can I lose a level or run out of lives?

No. Word of Lines has no timers, no lives and no way to fail. Take as long as you like, and leave any level whenever you want.

I am stuck on a level. What can I do?

Shuffle the wheel, or reveal a letter for 35 coins. Stay stuck for a while and a free letter appears on its own, so you never need coins to finish a level. If you would rather take a break, tap Home: your words are saved for when you come back.

Is my progress saved? Does it sync to my other devices?

The game saves on your device as you play, and if you are signed in to iCloud it keeps a copy in your own iCloud account. Progress from two devices is merged, never overwritten: you keep the furthest level, every postcard and every extra word from both.

When do I see ads?

Ads keep Word of Lines free, and you will never see one in the middle of a level. Remove Ads, a one-time purchase, or the Word of Lines Plus subscription turns off banners and full-screen ads.

What is Word of Lines Plus?

An optional subscription, monthly or yearly. While it is active you get no ads and 5 free letter hints every day. Nothing in the game is locked behind Plus: every level can be finished for free.

Why was my word not accepted?

Words need at least three letters and have to be in the game's US English word list. That list is generous, so many unusual words count as extra words, but it leaves out offensive words, and some names, abbreviations and British spellings may be missing. The words you must find to finish a level are always everyday words.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no login, and the game never asks for your name or email address. Apple handles every payment.

What notifications does the game send?

Only the ones you allow, and at most one a day: that today's puzzle is ready, that your streak is about to end, that your piggy bank is full, or that your road trip is waiting where you left off. They are created on your device; we run no notification server.

The road is waiting
