Pocket Ninja AB
Privacy Policy — Wordfly Puzzle
Last updated: September 7, 2026
This policy explains what Wordfly Puzzle does with data. It covers the iPhone app and this website. It is written in plain language on purpose.
On this page
1. Who we are
Wordfly Puzzle is made and published by Pocket Ninja AB, a company registered in Sweden.
- Company registration number (organisationsnummer): 559107-4280
- Registered address: Sysslomansgatan 8, 112 41 Stockholm, Sweden
- Email: privacy@pocketninjagames.com
- Data protection officer: none appointed
Pocket Ninja AB is the data controller for the processing described here.
2. The short version
- Wordfly Puzzle has no accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, no password and no email address. There is no text field anywhere in the game, so you cannot type your name, an address or a message into it.
- We run no servers of our own. Every puzzle, word list and level ships inside the app. Your progress is saved on your device.
- Your puzzle play stays private. We never send your answers, your guesses or the words you find to anyone.
- You can turn analytics off in the app at any time: Settings → Account → "Share usage data".
- Ads are optional. Wordfly Plus removes them entirely.
3. What we collect, why, and where it goes
3.1 Usage analytics — Mixpanel
We use Mixpanel to understand how the game is played, so we can fix what is confusing and build what is used.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Game events: app opened, onboarding steps, puzzle started and completed, mistakes made, hints used, streak milestones, daily goals, shop viewed, purchase started and completed, ads shown, results shared, reminder set | Understand how the game is played and where players get stuck | Mixpanel |
| Properties attached to those events: platform, app version, plan type (free or Plus), interface language, numbers such as score, level, seconds taken and stars earned, the hour of day you picked for your daily reminder, and, when you buy something, which product you bought (for example the yearly subscription) and whether it was a subscription or a hint pack | Compare behaviour across versions, languages and plans, and see which reminders and plans people choose | Mixpanel |
| Device and environment data added automatically by the Mixpanel SDK: operating system and version, device model, manufacturer, screen size and resolution, network type (Wi-Fi or mobile), app version | Basic technical context for the numbers above | Mixpanel |
| A random identifier generated on your device the first time you play | Count one device as one player across sessions | Mixpanel |
| Your IP address | Mixpanel derives an approximate location (country, region, city) from it. We do not store your IP address ourselves. | Mixpanel |
| If you sign in to Game Center: your Game Center player identifier, and the fact that you signed in with Game Center | Recognise the same player across their devices | Mixpanel |
Events are stored on Mixpanel's EU infrastructure (api-eu.mixpanel.com).
What we never send to Mixpanel: the words in a puzzle, your guesses, the words you find, your Game Center display name, or any free text. Every value we send is a number, a true/false flag, or one of a fixed list of words chosen by us in the code — for example hint_type: "reveal_word" or result: "oneaway".
Before you sign in to Game Center, the Mixpanel profile is tied only to the random identifier described above. That identifier is persistent, so the profile is not anonymous — it is a profile for your device that is not linked to your name. It is not your advertising identifier and is not derived from any hardware identifier. If you sign in to Game Center, we attach your Game Center player identifier to that profile, so from that point on the analytics data is linked to a persistent identifier for you.
How to turn it off: Settings → Account → "Share usage data". When you switch it off, the app stops sending events immediately, tells Mixpanel to delete the profile associated with your device, discards anything still queued on the device, and clears the identifier. Switching it back on starts a fresh, new identifier.
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, analytics stays off until you switch it on. Everywhere else the setting is on by default and you can switch it off at any time.
3.2 Ads — Google AdMob
If you do not have Wordfly Plus, the game shows two kinds of ad: a rewarded video you choose to watch in exchange for two hints, and an interstitial after a round ends (at most once every three rounds, and never within three minutes of the previous one). The daily Groups puzzle never shows an interstitial.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Device identifiers used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK (the identifier for vendors, not your advertising identifier), plus device and network signals | Serve and measure ads, cap how often you see them, and detect fraud | |
| Your consent choices (EEA/UK) | Decide whether ads can be personalised | Stored on your device by Google's consent SDK |
| Apple's SKAdNetwork attribution signals | Let advertisers measure installs without identifying you | Apple, then the ad network |
Third parties, including Google, use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can read how Google uses this data at google.com/policies/technologies/partner-sites and manage your ad settings at adssettings.google.com. US users can also opt out at optout.aboutads.info.
Consent (EEA and UK). The first time the game starts, Google's User Messaging Platform shows a consent form before any ad SDK is initialised. If you do not consent, ads are not requested. You can change that choice at any time in Settings → Account → "Privacy options".
App Tracking Transparency (iOS). As of this version, Wordfly Puzzle does not ask for permission to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and does not request your device's advertising identifier for that purpose. Because we do not ask for tracking permission, iOS does not give Wordfly Puzzle or Google your advertising identifier, and the ads you see are not personalised using it.
Wordfly Plus removes all ads, rewarded and interstitial. Plus subscribers are not shown the "Watch an ad" button at all.
3.3 Game Center — Apple
Signing in to Game Center is optional and never forced. You can play everything without it.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your Game Center player identifier and display name | Show your name in the game and identify your leaderboard entries | Apple; the display name is also saved locally on your device |
| Your daily Groups solve time, current streak, best Letter Grid score and total stars | Game Center leaderboards | Apple |
| The names and identifiers of friends who appear on the daily leaderboard | Show the friends leaderboard | Read from Apple, shown on screen only |
Your Game Center display name is stored on your device and shown in Settings and on your profile. It is never sent to Mixpanel or to any other company. We read friends' names from Game Center to draw the leaderboard; we do not store them. Your Game Center player identifier is a separate value, and it is sent to Mixpanel when you sign in — see section 3.1.
The Friends screen says friends come from "Game Center and contacts you invite". The app never reads your address book. Inviting a friend simply opens the standard iOS share sheet with a line of text; we do not see who you send it to or which app you use.
3.4 Saved progress — your device and iCloud
Your progress is stored in a single file on your device. It contains your streak and best streak, your results for past daily puzzles (date, whether you won, how many mistakes, how many seconds, and the coloured pattern of your guesses), your Letter Grid history, your campaign and Word Drop levels and stars, your hints, your settings, your badges, and your Game Center display name if you signed in.
It contains no email address, no password, no account identifier, no device identifier, no IP address and no location data.
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, that same file is copied to your private iCloud key-value storage so your progress follows you between your own devices. It goes to your own iCloud account — we cannot read it, and it is not sent to any server of ours. If you are not signed in to iCloud, nothing is copied.
Settings → Account → "Reset progress" erases the file and replaces it with a fresh one; the iCloud copy is overwritten the next time your progress saves.
3.5 Purchases — Apple, RevenueCat and Mixpanel
Wordfly Plus is sold as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription. Hints are also sold in packs. Apple is the seller. We never see your payment details.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase and receipt information from the App Store | Confirm your purchase and unlock Plus or your hints | Apple, and RevenueCat (our purchase provider) |
| An identifier generated by RevenueCat, not linked to any account of yours | Restore purchases on the same Apple ID | RevenueCat |
| Whether your Plus subscription is active | Turn Plus features on or off | Returned to the app and stored on your device |
| Which product you bought, and whether you are on the free or Plus plan | Understand which plans people choose | Mixpanel |
We do not send your Game Center identifier, any device identifier or any email address to RevenueCat. Manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
3.6 Reminders
Reminders are scheduled entirely on your device by iOS. There is no push notification service and no device token, so nothing is pushed to your phone from us and no reminder text ever leaves your device. If usage data is switched on, we do record that you set a reminder and the hour you chose, as one of the analytics events described in section 3.1.
Turn reminders off in Settings → Play → "Daily reminder", or in iOS Settings.
4. What we do NOT collect
- No name, email address, phone number or postal address
- No account, no password, no login of any kind
- No payment card or bank details
- No location from your device — the app never asks for location permission and iOS never prompts for it. Our analytics provider does derive an approximate city and region from your IP address; see section 3.1.
- No contacts, no camera, no microphone, no photo library
- No health, biometric or other special-category data
- No chat, messages or any user-generated content — the app has no text input
- No puzzle answers, guesses or dictionary words sent off your device
- No crash-reporting or performance telemetry from Unity — all Unity Gaming Services reporting is disabled in this app
5. Legal bases (EEA and UK)
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Personalised ads | Your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), collected through Google's consent form |
| Non-personalised ads, frequency capping and ad fraud prevention | Your consent for storing and reading information on your device (ePrivacy), and our legitimate interest in funding a free game (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Usage analytics | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), given by switching "Share usage data" on, and your consent to storing an identifier on your device (ePrivacy Art. 5(3)) |
| Purchases, restoring purchases and providing Plus | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Game Center sign-in and leaderboards | Performance of a contract, at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| iCloud progress sync | Performance of a contract, at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Keeping accounting records of purchases | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
Ad personalisation involves profiling as defined in Article 4(4). It decides which ads you see. It produces no legal effects and nothing similarly significant for you, and we make no automated decisions about you in the sense of Article 22.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the companies needed to run the game, each of which is contractually required to protect it to a standard equivalent to our own:
| Company | Role |
|---|---|
| Mixpanel, Inc. | Usage analytics, including which product you bought |
| Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC | Ad serving and measurement (AdMob), consent management (UMP) |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Purchase validation and subscription status |
| Apple Distribution International Ltd. / Apple Inc. | App Store payments, Game Center, iCloud |
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.
7. International transfers
Analytics events are stored on Mixpanel's servers in the European Union. Mixpanel, Inc. is a US company, and Google, RevenueCat and Apple may process data outside the EEA. Where data leaves the EEA, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where the recipient is certified, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Email us at privacy@pocketninjagames.com for a copy of the safeguards in place.
8. How long we keep data
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Analytics events in Mixpanel | Deleted when you switch "Share usage data" off; otherwise kept for the retention period configured on our Mixpanel project |
| Analytics profile (the identifier and its properties) | Deleted when you switch "Share usage data" off |
| Ad identifiers and ad request data | Held by Google under Google's own retention policy |
| Purchase records | For the life of the subscription, then as required by Swedish bookkeeping law (7 years) |
| Progress saved on your device | Until you tap "Reset progress" or delete the app |
| Progress in your iCloud key-value storage | Until you reset progress or remove the app's iCloud data |
Your saved progress may also be included in your normal device backup, under your own Apple ID.
9. Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to receive it in a portable form. You can withdraw consent at any time — that does not affect anything done before you withdrew it. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Sweden that is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), Box 8114, 104 20 Stockholm, imy@imy.se.
A practical note. Because Wordfly Puzzle has no accounts, we usually cannot connect a request to a person, and under Article 11 GDPR we may have to tell you we cannot identify you. The controls in the app are the reliable route: turning off "Share usage data" deletes the analytics profile held for your device, and "Reset progress" erases your saved game.
Your choices
- Stop analytics and delete your analytics profile: Settings → Account → "Share usage data" → off.
- Change your ad consent (EEA/UK): Settings → Account → "Privacy options", or reinstall the app to see the consent form again.
- Stop personalised ads (iOS): Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Delete all your progress: Settings → Account → "Reset progress".
- Delete everything: delete the app, then remove its iCloud data in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud.
- Ask us something else: email privacy@pocketninjagames.com.
Your US state privacy rights (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia and others)
We do not sell personal information for money. Letting our ad provider use device identifiers for personalised ads counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under Californian law.
| Category collected | Examples | Source | Purpose | Disclosed to | Sold / shared | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | App-generated random id, device identifier used by the ad SDK, Game Center player id | Your device | Analytics, ads, leaderboards | Mixpanel, Google, Apple | Ad identifiers: shared | Analytics ids: the Mixpanel retention period, or until you switch "Share usage data" off. Ad identifiers: Google’s own retention policy. |
| Internet or network activity | In-game events, device model, OS version, network type | Your device | Analytics, ads | Mixpanel, Google | Ad identifiers: shared | Same as above |
| Geolocation (coarse) | Approximate city/region derived from your IP by Mixpanel | Your device's IP | Analytics | Mixpanel | No | Stored as part of the analytics event, so the Mixpanel retention period |
| Commercial information | Which products you bought, and whether you are on the free or Plus plan | App Store, and the app itself | Provide Plus and hints, and understand which plans people choose | Apple, RevenueCat, Mixpanel | No | Purchase records: life of the subscription, then 7 years under Swedish bookkeeping law. The analytics copy: the Mixpanel retention period. |
| Inferences | Which ads may interest you | Ad provider | Ad personalisation | Shared | Google's own retention policy |
We do not collect sensitive personal information as that term is defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not collect the equivalent "sensitive data" categories under the Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Minnesota, Maryland or other comparable state laws. We therefore have nothing to limit under the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and we ask for no consent to process sensitive data because we process none.
You have the right to know, to delete, to correct, to opt out of sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for exercising those rights. Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Minnesota, Maryland and other states with comparable laws have equivalent rights.
To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising: decline in the consent form, or turn tracking off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. This applies to that device. To make any other request: email privacy@pocketninjagames.com, or use the in-app controls listed under "Your choices" above. We will respond within the time the applicable law allows, which is 45 days in most states, extendable once.
If we refuse your request, you can appeal. Reply to our decision, or send a new email to privacy@pocketninjagames.com with "Appeal" in the subject line, within 60 days of our decision. Include the decision you are appealing and why you disagree. A person who did not make the original decision will review it, and we will write back with the outcome and the reasons for it within 45 days. If we deny the appeal, we will tell you how to complain to your state attorney general, and you may contact them directly — for example the Texas Attorney General's consumer complaint form, the Colorado Attorney General, or the Connecticut Attorney General.
10. Children
Wordfly Puzzle is not directed to children. It is not intended for anyone under 13, or under the age of digital consent in their country, which is up to 16 in some European countries. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, we do not ask your age, and we do not knowingly show personalised ads to anyone we know to be a minor.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the app, email privacy@pocketninjagames.com and we will delete any data we can identify. We aim to reply within 30 days.
11. About this website
pocketninjagames.com embeds no third-party content and hosts its own fonts. We do not ask you for any personal data, and there is no form to fill in.
The site uses one essential item of browser storage to remember your cookie choice, and optional analytics that stay switched off until you accept them. If you accept, our hosting provider's analytics sets a first-party session cookie that expires after 30 minutes and records page views in aggregate. Nothing is loaded and no cookie is set until you agree. You can change your mind at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, and the full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Our hosting provider processes standard server request data for security and reliability.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the app changes. The date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will say so on this page and in the app's release notes before it takes effect.
